Triangles – geometric pillow

This pattern was edited Aug 2015.

013

This pattern is for a 40 x 40 cm pillow
The front piece is made of 24 triangles and 6 half-triangles.
The back is a square made of dc only.
Yarn: DK / 8 ply
Hook: 4 mm
Gauge: 9 dc = 5 cm

How to make a triangle:
On the start of every row you make a dc in the same st as you start with the 3 ch. You're increasing with one st on the start of every row.
Row 1: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc), dc 1 in first ch, turn [2 dc]

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1dc), dc 1 in same st as the ch (where the arrow points), dc 1, turn [3 dc]

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as 1dc), dc 1 in first st and every st on the row [4 dc]
Row 4: ch 3 (counts as 1dc), dc 1 in first st and every st on the row [5 dc]
Row 5-12: Continue the same way, increasing 1 dc in the start of each row, until you have 13 dc. Cut the yarn, leaving 25-30 cm tail for sewing the triangles together later.

Lay out the triangles in the pattern you like. Whip stitch together using the long tails.

The back is made of two pieces. One large with stripes and one smaller piece.

Row 1: Make a dc foundation row, and make 70 dc.
Row 2 – 30: ch 3, dc 69. Change colour every 5th row if you want stripes.

Row 31: Buttonhole row. Ch 1, sc 8, *ch 2, skip 1 st, sc 9* 2 times, ch 2, skip 1 st, sc 10, *ch 2, skip 1 st, sc 9*  3 times.
Row 32: sc 1, sc in every sc from last row, sc 2 in every ch 2 space.

Piece 2:
Row 1: Make 70 dc with the foundation row method.

Row 2 – 10: ch 3, dc 69.

Put the front and back together with right side out. (Don’t worry if your back piece look to small. The blocking will fix that).

The back pieces are made to overlap by 5 rows. Make sure the rows match up.

I prefer to crochet the pieces together, from the front, starting in the bottom right corner.

Sc 2 in every row, through both layers. When you come to the overlapping you will crochet through three layers.
Sc 3 in the corner st, and  sc 1 in every st on the top and bottom.
Finish with a row of crab st.

Find 6 pretty buttons from your collection and sew them in their right places.

There you have it! A new pillow for your couch or favourite chair!
